WWE: Why Seth Rollins leaving The Shield will be good for Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and WWE

We knew it was going to happen . We just didn't see it coming one night after The Shield's sweep of Evolution at WWE Payback.

Prior to Monday's scheduled main event between The Shield's Roman Reigns and Evolution's Randy Orton, Seth Rollins grabbed some chairs in what appeared to be preparations for an Evolution attack. But it turned out that Rollins had other ideas in mind.

After Triple H mentioned his "Plan B," Rollins
attacked Reigns and the third member of The Shield, Dean Ambrose . When the beatdown ended, Rollins stood with Orton and Triple H outside of the ring.
The betrayal was one of WWE's top moments of 2014. You had the element of surprise and a high shock value. You could tell fans didn't know what to think of Rollins turning on Ambrose and Reigns. After a pause, they started chanting, "You sold out!"

While the timing of the split was a surprise, the fact that it happened was not. When you have three guys who have bright futures ahead as singles wrestlers in WWE, there is a time when you must split them up and send them on their own paths. WWE decided on Monday, for The Shield, that time is now.

For Rollins, this is a golden opportunity. As a member of The Shield, there were times when he was overshadowed by Ambrose, who has great presence in the ring, and Reigns, the guy many believe is WWE's next big good guy.

Rollins has shown he can be a star. His high-flying ability, crazy bumps and move set have made him a fan favorite. Teaming with Evolution, namely Triple H, will bring more attention to his ability. It's a big deal for him to join Evolution. That tells the WWE Universe that Triple H really sees Rollins as someone who can be one of WWE's top guys going forward. And it should show fans that Triple H is positioning himself to be a mentor for Rollins.

With Rollins moving on to Evolution, it also presents a great opportunity for Ambrose and Reigns. While they will likely remain a faction for a short time, both superstars will get a chance to take on a more prominent role in the angles they are involved in.

Ambrose doesn't need a lot of polishing. His in-ring skills are top-notch and few cut promos better than the former Jon Moxley. But Reigns stands to benefit from the added role.

Reigns is a guy who has the physical attributes WWE looks for in their top stars. But his presence and promos could use some more work. With Rollins no longer a member of The Shield, Reigns will get more opportunities to work on his verbal game. He can also work on his move set, which is getting better, but still needs some touching up.

It's easy to look at the split and pick winners and losers. But in this case, all three guys are winners. Rollins will get a chance to work with Triple H and Randy Orton, two of WWE's great champions. And Ambrose and Reigns will get some added time to shine with one less member of their faction.

The split is a long time coming, but it should work for all involved.
